Silbatone used a WE horn to play in mono and a pair of their own horn cabinets for 2-channel.The very cinema sound reinforcement looking horn was, I was told, a 16B. I will post some comments about the sound a bit later. ...

'Gunmetal' turntable, arm and MC-cartridge by Imai-san (Audio Tekne)....

Thales tonearm tracing an infinite groove. ...

I've just got back home from there. Here is the concert hall where the Munich PhO performs....

another horn speaker. time aligned!

Okay, I see your point, though I feel there is something wrong about magnets in the MC catridge's vicinity. I will have arguments later, probably. Now we can look at it differently. Remember direct drive? A motor sits right below the platter and emits...

The arm and the table have been around for some while, I think. I saw it at a Russian show 4-5 years ago. Otherwise I can only agree with Romy that it's an unusual design....

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]I do like the idea of magnetic suspension; I do not know why you feel that it is a stupid idea. As you built up the mass of your platter then very soon will not be able to hold the heavy platter at a single point bearing. T...

Oh, yes. there was a plenty of absolutely stupid ideas implemented and copied incessantly in turntable manufacturing. The gross one is of course the magnetic suspension to ease up the work of the platter bearing. Not mentioning that it is a very unlin...

Wow, N-set, I've got it, thanks. It's indeed idler inside out. So they need to change this rubber O-ring outside the platter from time to time?...

Stumbled upon a company in North America which makes 'rim drive' turntables, which I presume are idler-wheel type of drive, is this right?May be someone had experience with that? www.ttweights.com? NB: I do not know anything about how those TTs sound...

Interesting subject. I don't believe that there are amps (or systems) which are good at reproducing baroque and bad at reproducing Stockhausen. For starters, how would the amp know that it is Purcell I am sedning him via electric current? If it does...

For your french windows:...

Important thought I need to share with you all: try to make every piece of acoustical treatment accessible and adjustable for tuning by ear. This is perfectly in-line with acoustics theory by Skudrzyk (??????) and the great Wallace Sabine who defined...

Looks like a good solution, this.To make the fabric-covered pipe more reflective you may spray-paint the fabric, I think. ...

Well it is getting interesting. I am getting the grip. I might as well read all the previous 11 pages to understand why the horns are on the backwall though...So what we have there on the backwall is big patches of 'air' which sort of suck HF inside ...

[quote user="Romy the Cat"]The only thing that I do not have is some kind of stand alone, mid room HF eater that I would like to place between speakers and the back wall’s windows, something like tube traps or the similar. I do not like the tube trap...

I will think about it. Romy, of course you know me. Use your little grey cells as Msr Poirot used to say.Initial thoughts: hunting HF reflections and damping them is generally not a good idea. It is like making a speaker cabinet completely damped - t...

This does not actually belong to anybody. This is like a Gov't or corporate residence and the 'hi-fi' is a part of decoration. Decent system apart from Mark Levinson's new clothes stuff. I presume the Daniel Hertz or whatever is a present from Petrof...

Romy,1. Congratulations on you new home, first of all.2. Can you write once again what are the problems in your room which need to be solved acoustically.Of course, remote healing is a myth but we can think of some efficient solution together.Your ol...

Romy, I'd agree that it is not really exciting to have the 5.1 for watching classical music videos in the Opera room. It is hard to obtain good sound from 2 speakers, 5 or more is then ridiculous. The downmix to 2.0 option is a bit of an enigma to me...
